4. A HISTORY OF CIVIL Rights
하원 John Lewis와 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 를 비롯한 민권운동가들의 고향으로, 사회운동 역사와 전통이 깊은 지역입니다.
Present-day Georgia is built on the legacies of those who fought for civil rights and justice, including Congressman John Lewis and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Presently, Democratic senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff represent the state, while Andre Dickens presides as Atlanta’s Mayor. Gwinnett County is repped by Korean-American Sam Park, the state’s first openly gay male legislator. Sheikh Rahman, originally from Bangladesh, is the first immigrant to serve in the Georgia Senate.
Georgia is governed by Republican Governor Brian Kemp, an advocate for businesses and economic growth. Under his leadership, Georgia was the last state to shelter-in-place during the pandemic, and among the first to reopen, with strict social distancing guidelines in place. Many applauded his decision. Gov. Kemp was acknowledged for putting the needs of the business community first and keeping Georgians employed.
National nonprofits such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta are both active in metro Atlanta.
Georgia has leaned purple in recent years. A substantial immigrant and refugee population calls Georgia home. It’s also home to many political leanings, socioeconomics, and identities. The differences challenge Georgians toward civility and tolerance. Georgians strive for social graces and warmth.

5. GWINNETT COUNTY: A MECCA FOR KOREANS
Gwinnett County, located northeast of Atlanta, is the most culturally diverse county in the Southeastern US. In 2010 it became a minority-majority County.
Metro Atlanta enjoys a Korean-American population of over 120,000. Korean supermarkets service local residents, while countless Korean restaurants, bakeries, and specialty establishments cater to a variety of tastes. One we like is Café Rothem, voted 2019’s best cafe by Atlanta Journal-Constitution readers. Vincent Bakery, White Windmill, Paris Baguette, Tree Story, and Cafe Mozart are also great options for studying and socializing.
For those needing their K-town fix, there are literally thousands of Korean-owned businesses in the County. Many offer professional services, imported goods, and bilingual language access. Need a haircut? Easy. A Korean-language bank? Check. International shipping to Korea? Done.
